GRAYS will rue the chances they spurned in the first half as they let a 1-0 lead slip to lose 2-1 at home to Great Wakering Rovers.
In the 2nd minute, Alex Osborn found himself in acres of space on the left side, he had time to turn but his shot went wildly over.
Grays looked very agile indeed and looked hungry for the three points that would see them just three points off the play-offs.
In the 9th minute, he went close again with a searing shot.
In the 11th minute, Simon Thomas broke free with just the keeper to beat but the ball went agonizingly wide.
Another fast flowing move saw Richard Oxby’s drive well parried away by Louis Godwin-Green.
Shots continued to rein down on the Wakering goal but Grays got their just desserts when Brad Thomas rose high to head into the net.
But Grays began to let the Rovers back in the game and so it was no surprise that as the game became scrappy, Rovers striker Ross Wall was able to bundle the ball home in the 40th minute.
Grays came out all guns blazing in the second half with Steven Demetriou testing the keeper in the 46th minute.
But the game turned round when Duran Reynolds was red carded for a foul on the last man.
An already incensed Julian Dicks was incandescent and shortly afterwards joined Reynolds off the pitch.
The next twenty minutes decided Grays season. Junior Baker came on but Grays couldn’t muster a decent chance when they did it went to Simon Thomas who was somewhat profligate.
They were punished when ex-Grays youth Toran Senghore slotted the ball away in the 80th minute.
Grays fans drifted out as thoughts started to turn to next season.
