Following hot on the heels of their last success at the Thameside – Not Now Darling – Thurrock Courts Players have come up with another winner.
Suffering from the longest title in theatre history “They Came from Mars and Landed Outside the Farndale Avenue Church Hall in Time for the Townswomen’s Guild’s Coffee Morning” is one of the most popular Farndale comedies.
Written by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jnr (others in the stable include a Macbeth and a murder mystery) “Mars” deals with four ladies and a poor hampered stage manager, Gordon, who attempt to put on a play with no scenery, chaotic dialogue, a lead actress who is indisposed in the toilet for the entire performance and then, at the show’s climax an interruption for the flower arranging competition. Oh, and they also manage to drug one of the leading ladies so she is comatose for most of the play! Badly rehearsed dance sequences, props and scenery in the wrong place and overacting to the extreme, this show will make a wonderful evening out for the whole family.
Mike Jones, making his directing debut, says “Rehearsals have been great fun and I have been blessed with such a strong cast. I am confident that audiences will love this – think Acorn Antiques in space.”
“They came from Mars” is at the Thameside Theatre from Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th May. Tickets are just £8 for adults and £6 concessions. The Box Office Telephone Number is 0845 3005264.
