Plans for hotel and warehouse development on Aveley/Purfleet border approved

PLANS FOR a 58-bedroom hotel and a massive warehouse development on the Bluelands Quarry on the Purfleet/Aveley border moved a step closer as the application received “outline” approval by the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (DC).

The application by Goodmans Thurrock (Jersey) Limited has been vehemently objected to by local residents led by Aveley councillor, Wendy Herd.

One of their key concerns was the 200 plus lorry movement per day plus damage to wildlife, loss of green space and a general worsening of quality of life for residents of Watts Wood. Whilst cllr Herd said: “The area was not identified in the Master Plan.”

Representing the applicants, Dan Massie described how the “de-watering” of the quarry and associated works would take over two years. Whilst, once the buildings were completed, they would be both over 15 metres high.
