Couple rescued from twelfth floor blaze in Grays

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two jets to tackle a fire in a high rise flat in Lionel Oxley House in New Road, Grays.

The blaze broke out in a flat on the 12th floor of the 14-storey block. Quick action by firefighters contained the incident to the flat of origin.

The occupants of the flat were removed to a place of safety.

Once the fire was out, by 10:58 hrs, crews used a high pressure fan to ventilate the flat.

A joint Police and Fire Service investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the incident.

Five appliances, including an aerial ladder platform, were sent to the scene when the alarm was raised – ECFRS’ regular attendance for a property of this kind.
