Northern-based sofa retailer CSL has defied the retail gloom and plans to expand into Thurrock after reporting like for like sales growth of 6% in the nine weeks to 26 June.
This month, Wigan based CSL will open its first store in the South East at Brent Cross Shopping Park in North West London. The store will be its first outside of the North and Midlands reports Property Week.
The family-owned firm, founded in 1984 by husband and wife Brian and Mary Tyldesley and now run by son Jason, recently announced plans to create a UK-wide presence by opening 15 new stores by 2015.
In addition to its new location at Brent Cross, CSL will open two further stores at flagship sites in the South East within the next six to nine months at Thurrock Lakeside and Croydon. Last year, it opened new outlets in Lincoln and Stoke.
Jason Tyldesley, managing director of CSL, said: “Our new Brent store marks an important milestone for CSL, as we expand our brand nationally and invest in our store portfolio across prime retail locations. We’re confident of securing further growth in market share over the coming years as we scale up the business in the South East and continue to introduce new innovations to our service and product range across our stores.
“Recent trading has been very encouraging. From a broadly flat first quarter, sales have continued to rise. While there clearly remains a lot of uncertainty across retail, we’re optimistic that we’ll continue outperforming the sector as more customers buy into our customer service, retail experience, high quality products and our no-nonsense approach to pricing.”
