CCTV at three gypsy camps in Thurrock approved

INSTALLATION of CCTV cameras at three gypsy sites in Thurrock following a number of assaults on council staff was approved by the Thurrock Council planning committee last night (Thursday).

Preparation will now be made for the erection of ten metre high surveillance cameras at the sites in Gammon Field, Long Lane, Stifford Clays; Pilgrims Lane, North Stifford and Ship Lane, Aveley.

Chadwell councillor, Gerard Rice asked officer what had neccesitated this proposal. An officer replied that there had been assaults inflicted upon officers which had left them hospitalised as well as thefts.

Conservative councillor, Phil Anderson agreed that there had been shown a demonstrable need.
