World-renowned opera composer opens festival

FORTY YEARS ago, Hassenbrook school pupil, Mark-Anthony Turnage started to develop his love of classical music. Since then he has become known throughout the world for his wide and varied canon of work.

Mark came to the wider attention of the media when his opera: Anna-Nicole Smith: The Opera premiered at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.

Mark-Anthony returned to the borough to open the Thurrock International Celebration of Culture.

YT spoke to him about his experiences of festivals and his message for young artists, just starting out on their careers.
