Police are asking the public to be vigilant against suspicious activity at ATMs after a cash machine in Southend Road, Grays was tampered with.
Police were contacted by the Co-Op store at the location on Monday, July 11 at 12.20pm to reports that the machine had been tampered with. It is not known at this point if anyone had fallen victim to the tampering when withdrawing cash.
PCSO Coralee Baxendale said: “We are urging people to keep a watch out around cash machines. If you see someone watching people withdraw cash or someone using the machines suspiciously, I urge you to contact police as soon as possible. Most people use cash machines to withdraw their hard-earned money, and it is not fair that a thief may get that instead, so if you know anything, please call us.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police at Grays police station on 0300 333 4444 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
