The development of extra care housing in Long Lane, Grays, came a step closer on Wednesday (6 July) evening.
Thurrock Council’s cabinet agreed to start a tendering process for the care and support services on the site.
Sixty-five extra care flats are currently being developed by Hanover Housing Association on the former Elizabeth House and Long Lane Leisure Hall sites in Stifford Clays.
Cllr Tony Fish, portfolio holder for adult social care, told the meeting: “Extra care housing is between sheltered housing and residential care. It supports people to live in their own home up to and including end of life care.
“By starting this tender process now, everything should be in place by next summer.
“We are working with Hanover on the housing element of the project and are now looking for partners to provide the care support.”
A report to the meeting explained: “The scheme in Stifford Clays is designed to meet a wide range of needs including physical disability and sensory impairment as well as providing a safe and secure environment for people with dementia and mental health needs.
