Stanford and Corringham Townswomen Guild

CHAIRPERSON, JENNY White, welcomed members to the summer social. A plentiful supply of picnic type food had been prepared by Janet Course, Pat Spencer and Chris Wilson with Pat Arnold providing drinks and nibbles. Diets were forgotten for the evening.

Sheila Drake provided an interesting quiz sheet and a game of quoits which was won, in the last throw, by Jenny White, who received a pot plant as a prize. The social provided a useful opportunity to discuss forthcoming national and federation events, informally.

Some of the national trustees, all voluntary Townswomen members, hosted a Getting to Know You day at Saxon Hall, Southend, on Sea on July 6. It was an opportunity for Essex guild members to meet the hardworking ladies from Birmingham headquarters. Pat Arnold, Janet Course and Pat Spencer attended. It was an extremely useful day, with exchanges of ideas on both sides. The new website was introduced with guilds being invited to make their own input.

Trudi English won the flower from your garden competition. Pat Arnold, Doris Krimmel and Audrey Blaker were second, third and fourth respectively.

A beetle drive will be held on August 10 at 7.30pm, in Corringham Village Hall. The competition is a china or earthenware jug. Visitors are welcome. The guild meets on the second Wednesday evening each month.
