Road safety’s a winner

WINNERS of a road safety competition were presented with their prizes on Monday (18 July) by Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Charlie Curtis.

One winner from each of the 19 schools taking part in the pedestrian training scheme, organised by Thurrock Council’s Road Safety team, was been chosen to receive a prize..

Pedestrian training is undertaken in every primary school in Thurrock to prepare pupils for Thurrock’s busy roads in an attempt to reduce the number of child casualties.

To assess how much a child has learned and to monitor this important project, evaluation forms are given to every pupil in Year 6 participating in the training.

The winners were invited to the Civic Offices in Grays to be presented with a fluorescent bag containing Road Safety materials by the Mayor.

The mayor said “It is essential that children are given the appropriate skills and information to enable them to be safe road users and continue to use and enhance those skills through to adulthood.
