Bookies held up in Corringham robbery

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery at Coral Bookmakers in St John’s Way, Corringham.

At 9.40pm on Tuesday, August 9, suspects approached the counter in the betting shop, produced a knife and demanded money from two women workers, who are in their 20s and 30s. An estimated £400 was stolen before the suspects ran off.

DI Danny Stoten said: “Thankfully the workers in the shop were uninjured, but what a frightening ordeal this must have been to them. There may have been a few passers by in the area at the time, and we want to hear from you if you saw this man in the vicinity.

“Did you see him behaving suspiciously or did you see a man matching this description make off in a vehicle? Any amount of information could help our investigation, so please get in touch.”

The suspect was a white man, aged in his late teens to early 20s, of a slim build, wearing a black hood, black trousers and had his face covered with a black scarf.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the South Ockendon Serious Crime Team on 0300 333 4444 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
