Millermen happy with opening point

Kingstonian went away from Mill Field with a point in this entertaining encounter where both sides had plenty of chances in the game but neither were able to break the deadlock

Early on Tom Bird went close for the Ks when he headed over from a right wing cross with four minutes on the clock, while Ellis Remy went close for the hosts up the other end as his header from Donovan Wilson’s cross went over bar, and then he somehow scooped an effort over the bar on the 15-minute mark from close range

Alan Dowson’s side were reduced to 10-men when Bird saw red for a two footed tackle on Wilson after 21 minutes and handed the numerical advantage to the hosts.

After the break, Millers skipper Micah Hyde produced a decent cross for winger Lee Perry but his shot was well saved by keeper Rob Tolfrey.
Despite being down to ten men, Kingstonian forced a good save from home custodian Dave McCartney after he tipped over former Arsenal man Ian Selley’s 22-yard free kick.

Substitute Sherwin Stanley had a chance to give his side a slender win with only one minute left on the watch when through on goal but his shot was weak and easily saved by Tolfrey and leave both sides having to settle for a point from this opening day encounter.
