GCSE 2011: Hassenbrook: A consolidation year

HASSENBROOK’S results illustrated the difficulties schools face when they are challenged with statistics. On the one hand they are 7% above the level set for them by the government. On the other hand, they are 5% below last years breakthrough of 64%.

You could tell that the senior management were putting a brave face on it but they need to remember that only three short years ago, they were sitting at 35%. Perhaps their “disappointment illustrates how far Thurrock schools have come over the last five years.

YT spoke to head of maths, Gary Lewis and two of the very happy pupils. A very pleased and calm Rob Keens and a very delighted Elizabeth Bablola.
