Lakeside and MacMillan set for coffee morning

LAKESIDE Shopping Centre and Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning are joining forces and hosting an event to celebrate their 21st birthdays.

The Lakeside coffee morning event will be held in the Central Atrium at Lakeside on Friday 2nd September, from 10am-10pm. It is one of the shopping centre’s 21 Good Deeds that are being carried out throughout 2011. The Good Deeds range from fundraising events like this one, to hands-on projects in the community and donations of vital equipment to local charities.

At the Lakeside Coffee Morning on the 2nd September, local dance troop, Ilaz Dance Company, will be performing throughout the day and children’s entertainers will keep the crowds amused. There will also be lots of games and competitions, plus opportunities to be pampered by The Body Shop.

The event will raise vital funds for those living with cancer and will also give Lakeside shoppers the opportunity to sign up to hold their own coffee mornings. The official World’s Biggest Coffee Morning day is Friday 30th September, but Macmillan says it is happy for people to hold events on a day that bests suits them. Macmillan Cancer Support wants Essex locals to raise £300,500 from the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to contribute to the charity’s record-breaking fundraising target.

Macmillan’s fundraising manager in Essex, Kate Whittle said: “We are determined to make this year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning our biggest ever! What better way to toast Macmillan than to sign up and get together with friends, eat cake, raise a glass or mug and have fun whilst helping to raise vital funds?”

Kylie Minor, Acting Marketing Manager at Lakeside, said: “The Good Deeds we have carried out to date have focused on raising money, doing good work and donating equipment to local charities in the Lakeside area, but with two million people in the UK currently living with cancer, and one in three being diagnosed during their lifetime, we felt that this big cause was just as worthy. We’re really looking forward to the event and hope to raise vital funds for Macmillan.”

The money raised from coffee mornings like Lakeside’s will be used to fund Macmillan’s support services helping people with cancer and their families.
