Grays Ath 4 v 0 Waltham Abbey
GRAYS ATH got their season back on track with an assured performance against Waltham Abbey.
In contrast to Saturday, where Grays Ath were always chasing the game, the Blues had their foot on the ball the whole time.
Hakan decided to give Jared Small a run out and the striker rewarded his boss handsomely with two goals in the first half.
A goalkeeping error gave him a gift in the 23rd minute for the first but the second just before half time was a pearl. A pin-point cross from Dave Cowley on the right and Small, imbued with confidence struck it first time.
The second half was more of an opportunity for Grays to play the way they have been before the hic-cup of the last fortnight.
Joao Carlos had one chance well saved and Junior Baker missed a sitter.
Joe Sweeney was very busy all night and deserved a goal. He came close in the 72nd minute when put through by Harry Agombar but his shot across the area. But he got his just desserts in the 77th minute with, again more good work by Harry Agombar sliding the ball to Joe Sweeney who with a feint put the ball and the game beyond Abbey.
But that wasn’t before Jared Small was able to complete his hat-trick just before full time, as from the edge of the area he lofted the ball over the keeper.
