Indoor Cricket: Orsett and Thurrock make the running.

Orsett “A” and Thurrock “B” are making the early running in the South Essex District Cricket Board’s indoor six a side cricket competition which started at Grays School on Friday.

Thurrock “B” had a close one-wicket victory over their club colleagues in the “A” team with Josh Clarke instrumental in the win by picking up two wickets at a cost of just 15 runs. For the Thurrock “A” team, Jake Chegwidden had a fine all-round match, scoring 15 runs and taking 2-21, while Shahmeer Quereshi gave valuable support with the ball by matching Clarke’s bowling figures. Meanwhile, Orsett “A” defeated their “B” team by four wickets, largely due to some impressive batting by Alfie Buttle, 25 not out and Jordan Cunningham, 21 not out.

But Lewis Rice, Louie Hornsby and Carl Rice had batted equally well for Orsett “B”, scoring 25, 13 and 10 respectively, all three batsmen being undefeated. The pick of the bowling in this game came from Robbie Millbank with two wickets at a cost of just eleven runs.

Scores: Thurrock “A” 81-6, Thurrock “B” 83-5; Orsett “B” 89-1, Orsett “A” 90-2.
This Friday’s fixtures are: 6pm – Orsett “A” v Belhus “B”; 7pm – Belhus “A” v Orsett “B”; 8pm – Horndon on the Hill v Thurrock “A”.
