COUNCIL LEADER, John Kent rebuked the leader of Kent County Council over assertions that a major airport could be built in Thurrock.
His comments came at full council last night (Thursday) after an interview Paul Carter had given to the BBC in which he had dismissed plans for an airport on the Isle of Grain or in the Thames Estuary but then said: “I think there is a better solution on the other side of the estuary in Thurrock.”
Cllr Kent told the chamber that he was disgusted that cllr Carter had not made any contact with Thurrock.
He said: “There has been no discussion between Kent County Council and Thurrock. Not a phone call, not an e-mail.
“It is offensive to make such a suggestion without even a single reference to Thurrock Council.”
However, sources suggest that the comments may not be as off-the-cuff as at first glance.
Recent activity at the Thurrock airfield in Orsett has suggested to some that a number of plans including the Lower Dartford Crossing are starting to appear on the radar.
Don’t worry Cllr Kent, as long as it doesnt appear in Tilbury, Chadwell St Mary, Belhus or Ockendon, you should be OK. I’m sure it will get your blessing if it is in Orsett…..
