Council leader welcomes Lakeside expansion plans

The Leader of Thurrock Council, Cllr John Kent, has welcomed the news that the Lakeside Shopping Centre planning application has been put in to the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation.

He said: “I’d like to congratulate Lakeside on getting this scheme together. It is yet another link in the tremendous story that is Thurrock’s regeneration.

“I am confident this will maintain Lakeside’s position among the best shopping centres in Europe.

“There was always something that concerned me about this and I’m really pleased to see that it has been taken into account — congestion.

“Those of us who live close to the roads approaching the complex know that even now it doesn’t take long for traffic to grind to a standstill and I was worried that generating even more traffic would multiply the problems.

“It’s good to see that Lakeside’s proposals not only include a new link road to the north of the centre, but also an improved bus station linked to the railway.

“I wait to see the details with interest.”

  1. Don’t make me laugh John…. You welcome Lakeside’s expansion then make an inane comment that M25 J30/31 isn’t fit for purpose but, your happy to see a “link” road. BTW, John, you don’t live anywhere near the roads that approach Lakeside unless you call downtown Grays, close to the approach roads.
