Summer riots: All charges dropped over Chadwell man accused of sending “riot” text

ALL CHARGES in relation to a Chadwell St Mary man accused of sending menacing messages in relation to the August riots have been dropped.

Steven Jones, (18), Stour Road, Chadwell St Mary, appeared at Basildon Magistrates court in August.

It was alleged that Jones had passed on a text message that encouraged all gang members across the borough to set aside their differences and riot.

The Crown Prosecution Service announced today that all charges had been dropped.

A spokesperson said: “Due to a lack of evidence, there will be no further proceedings.”

Speaking to YT outside court today, Mr Jones spoke briefly to say that he was “relieved” but also stressed that he was innocent of any crime.
