HORNDON’S John McDermott boxing dreams lay in tatters after he was stopped by exciting prospect David Price in the English heavyweight title.
David Price took just 73 seconds to beat McDermott. He landed some early punches including a superb uppercut and had the likeable Thurrock man down three times before the referee stopped the fight and claim the English heavyweight title.
Price told Sky Sports: “The fight is done and the result is in the bag,” said the 28-year-old Olympic bronze medallist, whose impressive record is now 12-0 with 10 knockouts.
Price is now expected to challenge Tyson Fury for his British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles.
Frank Maloney, manager of Price and formerly of heavyweight champion of the world Lennox Lewis, predicted big things for his boxer.
“David will dominate the heavyweight division. We now go to the next level,” he said.
“Tonight we saw a real heavyweight star born.”
