Labour candidate urges support for Petroplus workers

THURROCK’S prospective parliamentary candidate has urged the government to help the 1,000 plus workers whose jobs are at risk as the company is set to file for bankruptcy.

Polly Billington said: “This is worrying news and we need reassurances from the government that they will do everything they can to help workers at the Coryton Refinery whose jobs are at risk.

The Government also needs to remember it’s own obligation to ensure security of supply.

“The loss of 1, 000 jobs would be a real blow to the South Essex economy, which is already suffering. It would affect not just the Coryton workers and their families but the whole community, which would feel the knock on effects of such a large number of job loses.

The Tory-led Government’s failure to find a solution when a profitable company is at risk, shows just how out of touch they are with the concerns of the workers at the Coryton Refinery and the community in South Essex.”

  1. Poor old Polly. Bankruptcy means the company doesn’t have the money to pay the bills. That would suggest that the company as a whole isn’t making a profit, i.e. not profitable. Perhaps you’d like the government to nationalise the company using even more taxpayers money. Back to the nursing home Polly. I’m sure you’ll get better one day.
