A PURFLEET couple are due to be sentenced later this year (March) for a number of offences following a fatal road crash.
The collision happened in Purfleet when Darren Maeder was struck by a silver Mercedes CLK at 7pm on Thursday, February 17, 2011. The 37-year-old man, who lived locally, was certified dead at the scene. The car driver failed to stop at the scene.
A few hours later, Matthew Clark, a 36-year-old vehicle recovery assistant and 35-year-old unemployed Jennie-Lee Campbell were arrested and subsequently each charged with one count of perverting the course of justice. Matthew Clark was further charged with one count of failing to stop at the scene of road traffic collision and Jennie-Lee Campbell with one count of disqualified driving.
The couple lived together at their flat on Centurion Way in Purfleet.
On Thursday, January 26, Matthew Clark pleaded guilty to his charges. Jennie-Lee Campbell pleaded guilty to her charges in November 2011.
Darren Maeder had been jogging across Tank Hill Road when he was struck by the Mercedes which was being driven by Matthew Clark.
Both individuals were released on court bail prior to their appearance at Basildon Crown Court during week commencing Monday, March 5.
