THURROCK Conservatives have expressed his dismay at misleading comments made by Cllr. John Kent regarding the issue of no alcohol zones that was discussed at the January council meeting.

Cllr. Rob Gledhill, who represents Little Thurrock Rectory, said, “Conservative councillors, including myself, have consistently raised issues of accuracy with reports on this issue before it came before Council and we couldn’t simply let an inaccurate report go uncorrected. I tried to raise my concerns even before the Licensing Committee meeting on 4th January.

We have not criticised officers, we know who is at fault here. John Kent has accused us of doing something that we haven’t done and I find that deplorable, and for the avoidance of doubt the Conservative Group are happy to make it clear that we regard the Labour administration as being entirely responsible for this error”.

Cllr. Joy Redsell, who represents Little Thurrock Blackshots, added, “I find John Kent’s hypocrisy astonishing. Labour have been opposed to taking action on alcohol whereas Conservatives have taken a robust and consistent stance, and when Labour finally come around to agreeing that residents know what they are talking about and decide to support the DPPOs, rather than hold their hands up and say ‘we got it wrong’ they blather about process”.

  1. All Cllr Kent seems to be content on is bashing the Tories, whereas the Tories are content on improvements to the community. Very accurate description Cllr Redsell!

  2. Here we go again you can tell the elections are on the way because the residents are brought in to play. cllr Gledhill or Redsell COMMENTS whereas Conservatives have taken a robust and consistent stance,Short memories !! like the incident of getting drunk and taking wine at castle point counci 3 of your group and has for Labour leader john Kent i feel in the elections you should step aside and let someone take leadership with a bit more backbone i am sure when the election literature gets posted through our doors their will be lots of hair raising things printed it will be like reading from an ASBO report

  3. Council leader Kent “Shallow..deplorable and a hypocrite” say Tories. I do have to agree with Abbie Blogger but clearly if the reports were inaccurate that is an officer error, but what Cllr Kent has said is a different matter. it all seems like a bit of a mess at Thurrock Council. If issues were raised and Cllr Kent ignored them then it is his fault not officers. Labour seem to be focusing on silly stuff like promoting bunting!! i mean 100m of bunting for olympics, is that really an idea worth tax payers money. what about the real issues. It is sad to say but Labour is starting to look very uneasy so close to local elections.

  4. Labour have looked uneasy for a long while Gary. The problem with Labour is that they love power but when they are in a position to change things all goes to pot and they revert to slagging off the Tories. Unfortunately being consistant is something that Labour councils struggle to do.

  5. Couldnot have put it better Bernard, however I must disagree with the label of inconsist labour councils as this one has been consistently void of its own ideas and not made a decision of any note yet!!

  6. It’s a bit rich for Councillor Joy Redsell to lecture others about hypocrisy isn’t it.

She twice votes for the Local Development Framework that makes it Thurrock Council policy to sell off the Woodview college site for housing, she didn’t vote against or abstain – she voted FOR.

She then has the front to campaign with residents against the plan to sell off the site for housing – having twice voted for it to be sold off.

Now that’s what I call hypocrisy – a political Janus facing both ways on the same issue.

The bigger question is why, when Councillor Redsell was a Conservative Cabinet member and was part of the ruling group that directly controlled Thurrock Council, why she never once objected to the draft plans to sell of Woodview College site for housing? She never once objected or spoke out against the plans and on the 27th January 2010 she voted that it was to be council policy for the site to be sold off for housing.

On the 21st December 2011 at the Full meeting of Thurrock Council, both Conservative Little Thurrock Blackshots Councillors Ben Maney and Cllr Joy Redsell voted for Item 4 – Adoption of Thurrock Core Strategy and Policies for Management of Development, that included releasing the Wood View site for housing.

To now campaign with residents against the site being sold off for housing is hypocrisy when you consider she has already voted that the college is demolished and the site sold off for housing. Does she really think residents are that stupid?

  7. well said dave peterson, these tories are a absolute joke.the whole tory group on thurrock council has completely lost credibility.

  8. I can’t believe that councillor Redsell isn’t still on suspension she was on  suspension for the first hearing but not the second is councillor Anderson counting his eggs. this woman is in the news more than Katie price. Thats where the resemblance ends As a member of the public I feel this woman has no shame she said “I find John Kent’s hypocrisy how dare this woman point the finger at anyone for hypocrisy when she is the worst candidate. I hope the may elections for Joy Redsell, who represents Little Thurrock Blackshots, puts an end to all of this and we stand up and show this councillor And the other 48 councillors this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated constantly in the press for meeting people and her conduct .in my mind she should stand down along with councillor Anderson in my opinion as tried to sway public perception by his vocal comments in the press.

  9. Dave i think you have given a good summary of the issues, but made the unfortunate mistake of using some very bad language when you mentioned the words Cllr Ben Maney. Again we find so many examples of particular elected officials that for the life of me i cannot understand who keeps voting them in. They make limited contributions to the community or community spirit. Often only quoted when it comes to knocking someone down. Cllr Maney was the portfolio holder for community safety, with the conservative administration. look at the miserable condition of policing and crime during his time. Hate crime was up, the EDL and BNP rampant. How do you expect a person with political views so close to the far right to actually make an impact on law and order. Cllr kent may look uneasy and yes he needs to stand up to these hypocrites but at least he has introduced a better style of politics. Now back to Cllr Redsell i think c100boyz said it best ‘Who is this Cllr Redsell’.

  10. So one of our esteemed bloggers emailed me to inform that i had made a comment in error, about the Labour party locally. I was reminded about a number of conservative Cllr’s namely Cllr Redsell and Cllr Revell receiving freebies from the Church of Scientology? the story goes that the Mayor previously received an invitation every year to the Annual Gala Charity
Concert at Saint Hill Manor, East Grinstead. This, I believe, is the
Hubbard Foundation headquarters. In the past attendance has
    been as follows:

22.10.06 – Cllr Joy Redsell declined the invitation but subsequently went
on a private visit to Saint Hill Manor on 07.02.07. She received lunch and
a small paperweight as a memento of the visit.

28.10.07 – Cllr Diane Revell & Cllr Mike Revell attended concert.

When i was informed about this level of sponging and using their position for free gifts i must say i did change my views somewhat. it appears that the headline “Shallow..deplorable and a hypocrite” might better describe the Tories.
