IT MAY well be a word that has only entered your consciousness in the last two years but now you hear it every day: social media.

You may be aware of twitter, facebook, youtube but then you hear words such as hootsuite, linkedin, foursquare, tumblr and your brain begins to hurt.

If you are in business, you will want to know the bottom line: how can it be of benefit to my business?

YT spoke to Caroline Thomas of www.salesscene.co.uk. Caroline is the voice of reason in this very noisy world and has been blazing a trail in Thurrock.

So whilst others may blind you with cyber-science, Caroline answers to each question are crystal clear.

  1. A five minute interview with a sales lady who is, ‘social media’, savvy, but after listening to her, I still do not know what she is selling, apart from the concept of selling things on line. I have never felt the need of joining , ‘Facebook’, or ‘twitter’, and this lady has given me yet another reason why I shouldn’t join.

We are being bombarded with intrusive advertisements on TV, newspapers, billboards, fliers through the letter box for pizza and Indian takeaways, and worse of all from telephone cold callers, normally with Asian accents whom I cannot understand. I would like to see the internet as an advertisement free zone – even the Grays Athletic web site is being used as another opportunity to sell more stuff that nobody wants.
