YEAR 10 pupils at Grays Convent School have raised an amazing £520.00 for the ‘Make A Wish Foundation’ by organising and staging a hugely successful talent show.

Parents, pupils and teachers were treated to a variety of acts from all year groups including singers, a comedy double act, rappers and traditional Indian dance.

Deputy Headteacher Dawn Collis said ‘We are so grateful to the girls who have worked hard over the last 5 months to put this event on, and so proud of their achievement.  They provided a quality evening of entertainment and have grown in confidence by performing on stage in front of a live audience.

It is lovely too that the ‘Make A Wish Foundation’ supporting terminally ill children will benefit from everyone’s efforts.  This is a charity chosen by the girls and is especially close to their hearts’.

The Year 10 Committee comprising Jackie Wakefield, Sarah Omowho, Amanda Oppong, Natasha Mushibwe, Jeynell Vondee, Danielle Afelumo, Deanna Leport and Darletta Odutun said ‘After all the months of hard work it was such a wonderful feeling when the show was over and we knew that everything had gone well.  We feel the biggest success was everyone working together as a team’.

the competition was won by Ellie Murphy, a year 7 pupil, with a lovely performance of ‘Cannonball’, a song recently recorded by X Factor winners Little Mix and which was judged by the panel of students and teachers to be the overall winning act.

Ellie said ‘I practised and practised and my parents helped me too.  I was really surprised and happy to hear my name called out as the winner’.
