TILBURY continued their good home form with a hardworking 4-2 victory over a spirited Soham Town Rangers side at a chilly Chadfields. Tilbury were indebted to a hat-rick from Alex Read which sees Tilbury move up one place to 7th.
Paul Vaughan made two changes to his side with returning Tom Webb replacing Paul King and Bradley Barnes replacing youngster Tom Wraight in midfield. Tom Webb made an immediate impact after only 6 minutes when his floating free kick found the head of Alex Read. The Dockers dominated for long periods and Read went close after 19 when he hit just over after a mazy run. A minute later Webb also volleyed just over the upright. On 25 Soham equalised when some lacklustre defending found defender Simon Flanz on his own who bundled over the line. On the half hour Andrew Furnell struck the post from a volley and the visitors came into the game. Within 6 minutes Tilbury were back in front following an excellent run from Read, who cut inside found Tom Webb in space and Webb slotted home. Read was in the thick of the action and on 38, shot from 35 yards and his effort was well saved by Jordan.
Within 24 seconds of the 2nd half Soham levelled again when the ball was punted into the Tilbury box and with the ball bouncing around Dubi Ogbonna headed past Marrable in to the empty net. Soham continued pressurise the Tilbury back four and Simpson headed at goal only to be denied by a super James Marrable save. With the introduction of Joe Collins on 64 turned the match round. Within a minute his first run found Read who smashed home after the keeper dropped the ball at his feet. In the final 10 minutes both sides pushed for the vital goal and Ogbonna was left in space and put wide. Both Webb and Collins also had chances before Soham’s great effort on 87, when they again struck the post from the excellent Ogbonna.
In the final minute Webb ran in to the box and was pulled down, the referee made the correct decision to award a penalty. Read made no mistake with a rasping shot to the keepers right an cap off a good night for the Dockers. Deep in to injury time Read almost made it a 5 when his effort was very well saved by Jordan.
Both sides should receive credit for playing the game in a good spirit and also the game was well officiated.
