Mayor plants “Jubilee Tree” In Grays

The Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Charlie Curtis planted a tulip tree at Grays Town Park on Thursday, (1 March) to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The tree replaces a decayed horse chestnut tree that was removed from the park last year.

Thurrock Council planned to replace the tree and decided to make the most of the opportunity and mark the occasion of the Queen’s Jubilee at the same time.

The choice of a tulip tree stems from the fact that it is a strong, disease resistant tree that produces large showy yellow flowers each year.

Cllr Curtis said: “I am honoured to be asked to plant this tree to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year. I urge our young ones to cherish the tree and look after it.

“The Queen’s Jubilee is just one of the many events Thurrock will be celebrating this year and I am looking forward to seeing all the bunting the people of Thurrock will be making and of course all the street parties.”
