POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two robberies on taxi drivers in Tilbury.
The first incident occurred in Thackeray Avenue on Tuesday, March 13. At 10.15pm, the driver, a man in his 50s, parked up to collect his fare and a suspect got in the car, threatened the driver with a knife and demanded cash. He fled with a two-figure sum of cash.
The suspect was a white man, aged between 16-20-years-old, wearing a light grey hooded top over a black jacket, a light grey scarf and gloves, and black tracksuit bottoms with white stripes down them. He also spoke with a general London accent.
In the second incident in Pageant Close at around 10.10pm on Thursday, March 15 a suspect got into a taxi and demanded money from the driver, a man in his 60s, and fled with a three-figure sum of cash. The suspect from this incident is described as a white man, aged between 21-40 with a light scarf and dark gloves.
Sgt Lee Argent said: “We have a team of experienced detectives investigating both incidents, and we have been offering advice to local taxi companies. Thankfully in both incidents’ the drivers were unharmed, but it is totally unacceptable that they should be threatened and have hard-earned takings stolen when they are trying to make an honest living. If you know who is responsible, do the right thing and call us.”
Police believe both incidents may be linked.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Thurrock target offender team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
