Simpson won the prestigious title at Kings Lynn last September and has made it his aim to visit all mainland UK tracks at least once during his Championship reign. Simpson will have a lot of competition this Sunday with bookings strong, including a rare Arena Essex visit from former multiple World Champion, Bill Batten – a pensioner these days, but still with the outright speed to win. Track Champion, Chris Bradbury is expected to be the man to beat.
A host of drivers from the West Country, the North and the Midlands will be descending on the raceway with Canvey Island brothers, Luke and Darren Phillips providing local interest.
The day will also include Saloon Stock Car racing with another World Champion, Eddie Darby, taking to the track, joined by Scottish visitor and National points champion, Stuart Shevill Jnr. The last time the Saloons visited Arena Essex, Steve Webster emerged with the ORC Championship and he will be present again – hoping to pick up where he left off. Local hopes rest with Paul and Matthew Tuppen from Stanford Le-Hope.
The Bangers will take part in a British Championship qualifying round and a mixture of entrants, both local to Arena Essex and from the West Country, are expected. It is a day of contact race action sure to thrill. Start time 1pm.
