President Gill Morris welcomed three visitors at West Tilbury WI this evening.
Iris Crane read her report on the Annual County meeting at the Westcliff Theatre. This was an excellent day George Mills told of he and his wife’s latest trip to the Ukraine and thanked everyone who gave goods collected from WI and also other women’s groups to the victims of the Chernobyl disaster he has been doing this for over eighteen years a remarkable couple.
Ruth Bond, Chairman of the National Federation gave us an insight of the work the WI do and the people she meets travelling in different countries to tell of her work. Then the Lord Lieutenant of Essex who spoke of his time with the Essex Women’s Advisory Group, he also gave a humourous side of his life and then said how he abhorred the way some comedians and TV have spoken about and portrayed Essex Girls this was greeted with much applause.
The meeting ended with a talk from the Olympic gold medal winner for 1984 Tessa Sanderson who spoke of her life both during her career as a javelin thrower and how she now has a training academy to help young athletes.
Unfortunately this months speaker was unable to come to the April WI meeting so members set about to entertain themselves.
Joy Ridgewell recited a poem she had written and told the group a story, and then everyone joined in a memory card game to make an enjoyable evening.

Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month.
