Undercover target under-age drinkers

UNDERAGE drinkers were targeted in a multi-agency operation carried out in Thurrock on the night of Friday (March 30).

Thurrock Council officers from the Community Protection, Licensing and Trading Standards teams joined forces with Essex Police to target known hotspot areas and seized 40 units (around 17 pints of lager) of alcohol.

Seizures were made in Grays and Aveley.

The operation also targeted anti-social behaviour and further investigations are taking place following one incident.

Essex Police Sgt Christian Howell said: “Partnership operations like this target the issue of underage drinking from a number of different angles. As well as enforcing the law together we can look at where alcohol is being sold and where anti-social behaviour is taking place as a result of the drinking.”

  1. Can this happen on a more reguular basis as we all know that the ones caught will be back out there the next day, we also need to look at the sale of alcohol and the fines imposed on the shops, these need to be made more of a deterent.
