Tilbury 1 v 0 Potters Bar Town 0 (att 87)
Tilbury’s excellent home form saw them on the brink of the play offs with a scrappy 1-0 victory over a hardworking Potters Bar side.
In a quiet half, Tilbury went close after only 5 minutes when Steve Good rifled just over from good Joe Collins build up play. The visitors went close minutes later from a goalmouth scramble. Tilbury were dealt a blow on 21 when Conor Mead pulled up and was replaced by Danny Smith. Potters Bar almost took the lead on 39 when Balic’s effort was cleared off the line by Worrell as he was going in to the net.
The all important goal of the game came on the hour when Tilbury stepped it up, when a ball was played back to keeper Bennett who miss kicked and the ball fell to Emiel Aiken who played in a ball to the excellent Joe Nightingill to score into an empty net.
Reece Loudon had a good effort 10 minutes later when he shaved the bar, before injury time substitute McLachlan hit over the top. There was still time for Marrable to bring of an outstanding save from Cole Penny to deny the visitors a point.
The result leaves Tilbury needing a single point in their final 2 games to confirm a playoff berth. The play off fixtures will not be known until the final Saturday of the season due to the closeness of the sides.
On Saturday, Tilbury welcome Maldon & Tiptree for the final home game of the season. Earlier in the season the sides shared a goalless draw.
After the game, a delighted Tilbury Assistant manager Dave Ross commented “Always going to be a battle. It was important we came away with the 3 points and we succeeded. Well done to the lads”
