The Belhus Ladies cricket team completed their indoor six side programme when they met Benfleet B on Thursday (26th April) in the competition sponsored by Thurrock Sports Council at Grays School.
After they had scored a patient 53 for the loss of two wickets after twelve overs, the Belhus team made two early strikes, the first of which came from the first ball of the Benfleet innings. Opening bowler Crystal Gansbuhler bowled Lauren Earle, then, three balls later, Gansbuhler was again on hand to gather a good throw and break the wicket to run out Earle’s replacement batsman, Chloe Brady, for just one run.
At this stage, Benfleet were two runs for two wickets, but then Danielle Sillitoe, 12 not out, and Ella Hill, 8 not out, helped Benfleet over the finishing line without further loss.
For Belhus, Gansbuhler finished with 1-10 from two overs. In the Belhus innings, Libby Cansdale and Rhiannan Jefferies were joint top scorers with nine not out while for Benfleet, Earle and Sillitoe picked up 1-13 and 1-7 respectively.
In the evening’s remaining game, Rayleigh Ladies became champions for the second successive season following a 41-run victory over the Benfleet A team.
