Work starts on playground

WITH the help and support of Thurrock Council, young people in Stanford-le-Hope have raised enough money to start work on reinstating their play equipment.

The equipment ad to be removed for safety reasons, but the children raised about £16,000 ─ including £15,000 donated by Cleanaway Mardyke Trust, with the council itself contributed £10,000 more. This combined with Palmers & Sons Ltd installing it at a reduced rate has enabled work to start.

The council worked with the young people in various ways, from helping them choose the company to work with through to the design stage.

There will be a second phase of work, and it is expected that once the first phase is complete later in the year, local people will want to add seating to the area.

  1. This is becoming more frequent, its a good job community groups get the support of funding partners like the Veolia Mardyke Trust to give its correct name, to lessen the burden on TBC.

Thanks to VMT for their support otherwise our communities and sports clubs would suffer without them.
