Win-win on the buses

THE Number 11 bus route has been improved and extended thanks to funding from Thurrock Council.

The service is now not only more frequent but also runs through Stifford Clays, via Blackshots Lane, and provides a new link to Basildon Hospital and Basildon Station.

Changes to the number 11 route have been introduced in response to comments and suggestions received from the public.

Travelling from Purfleet to Basildon, via Blackshots Lane means it covers areas affected by the withdrawal of the No.200 bus in August last year.

This is also the main reason behind introducing the link Basildon Hospital. The council subsidy has been funded through the Local Sustainable Transport Fund — the £5 million, four-year programme the council successfully bid for last year..

The No.11 now runs every 90 minutes Monday to Friday and every three hours on Saturday. Its route from Purfleet to Basildon goes via Aveley, South Ockendon, Stifford Clays, Chadwell St Mary and Orsett.

Leaflets and posters providing details are available in libraries and council offices across the borough or can be downloaded from Thurrock Council’s Public Transport website www.thurrock.gov.uk/travel/transport

Cllr Andy Smith, the Thurrock Council’s cabinet member for transport, said: “Once again the council has been able to listen to what local people have said and then liaise with local transport providers to fill that need. Another win-win for Thurrock people and the council.”
