A Bradley Mason hat-trick and an unbeaten century from opener Terry Hurrell secured Horndon 2nd XI their second SNEL win of the season at home to Old Southendians on Saturday.
Winning the toss skipper Lewis Crooks put Old Southendians in to bat. Horndon’s opening attack bowling attack bowled accurately to restrict Old Southendians to just 81-3 from their opening 26 overs, with Mark Wills taking 1-27 from 13 overs. However Horndon did lose bowler Dave Roberts to injury after only two overs.
Mark Hope made 50 for Old Southendians before being caught and bowled by Lewis Crooks. Crooks also removed Tim Breakey for 34 before Bradley Mason removed the next four wickets to leave Old Southendians on 132-9. Masons’s hat-trick included Steve Tomlin bowled round his legs, Kyle Smith stumped by Terry Hurrell and Chris Sorrell LBW.
Kieran Sasiadek and Terry Sims put on 50 for the last wicket before Sasiadek was bowled by Ben Knowles for 50 with the score on 182.
In reply opener Terry Hurrell made a magnificent unbeaten 103 from 106 balls which included 16 fours. Despite Suffering a mini collapse when Horndon lost three batsmen without scoring from the bowling of Chris Sorrell (5-66) Mark Wills (26) and Terry Hurrell saw Horndon home for a five wicket victory which takes Horndon to the top of the SNEL 2nd XI Div 3 table.
