A TILBURY STREET was celebrating after it campaigned to have a street party on the day of the diamond jubilee removed from its street.
YT understands that the Redeemed Church of God, based on the site of the old Anchor pub in Civic Square gained permission from the council to have a party on Arkwright Road.
However, it appears that residents were angered that they did not receive any notice from the church and that the party seemed to be more a “community event” and less a celebration of the diamond jubilee.
A petition was organised with nearly all of the campaigners signing it.
In a letter to all the residents, that was published on twitter, council officer Natalie Warren cited traffic management issues as one of the main concerns.
The church has now re-located its community event to within their own building to which all neighbours are invited.
There are no official parties organised on Arkwright Road in its place.

This is unbelievebale. Why aren’t these people being allowed to hold a jubilee street party. Get Councillor Wombat on it straight away. Bloody racists.
It was a good hearted gesture by the church to lay on a party for residents. Many are concerned that a traffic problem is seen as a racist rebuff. The party was moved without problem to the Anchor and about 80 people ate and drank free of charge. Residents joined in the celebrations and all left with a gift. Many thanks goes to those who made it possible.
