ESSEX Police is warning people not to race their cars anywhere near Lakeside shopping centre in Thurrock on Saturday June 16 2012. Online efforts have been made to organise a “cruiser” event there.
Inspector Tony Adams said
“Unfortunately in Essex, we have seen incidents where people have suffered life changing injuries or lost their lives as a result of road collisions during such events. Police will be there in numbers, and we will take all possible action against anyone driving dangerously. We will be engaging with members of the public at Lakeside and providing a visible presence ensuring anybody in the area has a safe and legal evening.
Police will be patrolling the area in a mixture of vehicles including marked and unmarked units, some with specialist evidential sound and video recording equipment operated by our Road Policing Specialists.”
Further operations are planned at various locations in Essex and Essex Police will be trialling equipment which can measure the sound from a vehicle’s exhaust and present it as evidence in court.
Please sent any comments about the road or cruiser activity to Inspector Tony Adams at South Ockendon police station by dialling 101 or email cruisers @essex.pnn.police.uk
