Cricket: Youth cricket blooming in Orsett

ON SUNDAY 17th, Orsett CC Sunday side travelled to Farningham CC for their annual fixture . The Orsett team were the product of the club youth system with the eldest player at 19 and the youngest at just 12. Whilst a young side, the team consisted of three first team players with the remainder 2s.3rds, 4th and 5th team representatives.

Orsett chose to bat and amassed a score of 250 from there 40 overs. Skipper George Pavitt 63 Not Out, Ryan Plom 55 Not Out, Lewis Lockyer 50 and

Tom Haden with 40 being the main contributers. In reply Farningham struggled with the bat due to some good bowling from the Orsett attack.

Farningham were dismissed for just 105 with wickets from George Smith (1) Will Gibbon (1) Lewis Lockyer (2) George Wonderling (1) and Jack Plom with 3 for 12 off 6 overs. The team were further supported by 1st team opening batsman Ryan Plom keeping wicket with a stumping and impressive glove work.

Club spokesman Jason Plom said, it was a very enjoyable game with Farningham CC always being a great place to come to. Although the team were a young side there are some very good cricketers in there with most a direct product of our youth system.

The club is working extremly hard to provide the best facilities and coaches for the players and with the likes of Adrian Rollins, Kevin Sargent, Keith Goodman and of course our club coach Terry Hills we are starting to see the real benefits. If there are players out there that want to learn how to play the game properly then Orsett CC can provide the best coaching to help them.

If anyboday is interested, we have an open invitation to any buddung cricketer on a Friday night from 5.45pm until 8 pm with the first session being free of charge.
