Transport minister impressed as junior fighters put through paces

TRANSPORT minister, Mike Penning joined Thurrock councillors, proud parents and fire officers at Grays fire station on Friday as the young fire officers competed their course.

The young men and women were from a number of schools and colleges across the borough and had spent th elast twelve weeks learning the basics on what it takes to be a fire fighter.

The passing out parade consisted of a mock operation. This was hard enough but having the transport minister as well as parents watching on can be nerve-wracking.

William Edwards student, Ben Jones said: “I have really enjoyed the course. I have learned a lot.

I was quite nervous today as my whole family were there from my little sister to my grandparents.”
