Stanford-le-Hope Cricket Club 125 Cricket Week – 27th to 31st July 2012

Stanford-le-Hope Cricket Club is holding a very special Cricket Week at Stanford Rec starting on Thursday (26th July) as part of its 125th Anniversary celebrations.

The week commences with an interclub 20/20 match at 6pm on the Thursday evening. This should serve as a good warm up to the main action which starts the next day with a Club XI match on 27th against Horton Kirby CC starting at 2pm. Horton Kirby is a club of similar distinction to SLHCC. They herald from Kent where they were founded in 1882. This will be their second visit to Stanford where their youthful side will receive another warm welcome as per their previous visit in 2010.

Saturday 28th sees the usual Shepherd Neame Essex League action with the 1st XI at home to Wickford and 3rd XI at home to Epping, both starting at 1pm. With great timing, Wickford are most appropriate opponents on this day as they too are celebrating their 125th birthday during 2012.

Sunday 29th is President’s Day when Club President Ron Yardley’s XI of present SLHCC players will be pitted against Club Chairman Bob Pearn’s fascinating line-up of past SLHCC players including such luminaries as Chris Sharp, Matthew Hyde and Paul Bennett (now Pegasus and Belhus). The action starts at 2pm.

Finally, the centrepiece of SLHCC’s cricket celebrations for 2012 will take place on Tuesday 31st when the 1st XI take on the Club Cricket Conference President’s XI in an all-day game starting at 11:30am. The CCC plays only a limited number of matches every year and so SLHCC is delighted to have secured this most prestigious of fixtures. The CCC side will be captained by Essex Premier League side Ardleigh Green’s Roy Smith and is likely to contain a number of promising young players from the region.

Spectators are welcome to watch of all these fixtures at Stanford Rec.
