Thurrock scouts looking forward to Jamboree

THERE is just three weeks to go until the return of the largest Scout and Guide International Jamboree in the UK this year. 7,000 participants from all corners of the UK and from around the world are starting to prepare for an experience of a life time, together in Chelmsford for fun, challenge and adventure.

Essex International Jamboree has been running since 1927 and to date has had over 70 different countries visit and camp. This year the theme is “Our World, Our Future” and everyone on site will get to participate in over one hundred and twenty different activities. There are 10 different programme zones on offer allowing young people to be challenged, try new things, make friends and have fun. The 10 zones are:
· Challenge Zone – Have fun climbing, abseiling, caving, zorbing and much more!
· Creative Zone – Activities will include African Drumming, an 8 foot high graffiti wall and tie-dying neckers.
· Culture Zone – The aim of this zone is to learn about as many different countries and cultures as possible.
· Eco Zone – This zone is based on a global environment theme, with activities based around wind, fire, earth and air.
· Enterprise Zone – Here participants will get a flavour of what it is like to set up their own sweet shop business learning entrepreneurial skills and team working abilities.
· Greenwich Zone – This is the main hub of social activities on site use the Labyrinth area for worship or prayer or use your free time to visit the cinema, shops or relax with food or drink in the coffee shop
· Skill Zone – Participants tackle a variety of skill based activities. These include circus skills, catapults, archery and lots more.
· Survival Zone – Our survival zone will challenge Scout and Guides skills. Activities we can announce include fire by friction and an incident hike. Plus, Red Cross, emergency services and other charity groups will be lending a hand in this zone.
· Team Zone – Here participant will fine tune their team skills and abilities while completing an “it’s a knock out” challenge based game.
· Water Zone – This zone makes sure not one participant comes back dry! Have a go at scuba diving, sailing, canoeing, kayaking and rafting!

In conjunction with the activities during the day participants will also get access to a whole host of evening activities from the Main Stage, the Dance Marquee and Jamboree Got Talent there is something for everyone!

Essex International Jamboree will start in just 3 weeks time from 18st August until 25th August 2012.
