THURROCK put in a fine performance but went down 1-0 to early league leaders, Hampton and Richmond.

Thurrock had early chances through Fola Orinlonise inside the first minute. But after that it was batten down the hatches as Hampton held sway.

Thurrock couldn’t seem to put any sustained pressure on the Beavers, the nearest they got was an Obamwonyi header which went wide, plus Barnett had a straight shot easily pouched by Rodney Chiweshe.

It was Charlie Moone who held sway up front. In the 38th minute, he opened the scoring as he met a cross from the left to head in.

Thurrock tried to get back into the game with chances for Orinlonise and Obamwonyi.

But Fleet keeper Adam seal was being kept busy and he made a fine fingertip save from James Simmonds.

Thurrock sub Harry Honesty should have levelled it in the 80th minute as he was left one on one with the keeper Chiweshe, but the Richmond defender hustled the ball away.
