AN OCKENDON teenager has pleaded guilty to killing her pet hamster by placing it in a microwave.
The 13-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Basildon magistrates court.
A court heard that she placed it in the microwave and cooked it until the three-year-old hamster died.
The teen told her mother that the hamster, called Nibbles, had died of natural causes and so they buried the three or four-year-old white hamster in their garden. The hamster’s body was later recovered from the garden.
RSPCA inspector Lewis Taylor, who investigated the case told a reporter: “A vet confirmed that the hamster had died from heat exposure, which was consistent with it being cooked in a microwave.” The teenager will complete a three-month referral order.
