ESSEX FIRE SERVICE reported a relatively quiet night across the county, that is apart from Thurrock.
At 4.30pm, crews were called to a fire in a builders yard at Watson Close, Grays.
Firefighters had been called to tackle a fire involving scrap wood and pallets at a builders yard. Crews arriving at the scene reported that an area of 20m x 10m was well alight. They worked to prevent spread to adjoining undergrowth and shrubs.
The blaze was brought under control by 18:10hrs and a crew stood by as the owners of the site carried out a controlled burn.
The cause of the incident is thought to be deliberate.
At 10.20pm, crews were called to a report of two lorries alight in the Purfleet Industrial Park in Aveley.
Firefighters used one jet, one hose reel and foam to tackle the blaze involving two HGVs. The vehicles were well alight when crews arrived at the scene, parked in the yard of an industrial unit.
The incident was dealt with by 23:28 hrs.
A fire investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.
