Independent police candidates still on the beat for votes

THE TWO independent candidates for the post of Essex Police crime commissioner, Linda Belgrove and Mick Thwaites have made a great impression on the Essex public since they started campaigning.

Mick, with 34 years experience in the police comes across as a loyal but critical friend of the police.

Linda, of all the candidates, comes across as the one person who could be the glue to hold together the fragile beast that is the criminal justice system in Essex.

Both appeared at the Thurrock Over 50’s Forum at the Civic Hall.

YT’s Mike Jones asked them to reflect on the weeks of campaigning.

  1. Less than a week to go before people are asked to vote on the new PCC and the majority of people probably still do not have a clue who is actually standing, there has been an embarrasing lack of information or campaining for this important role, all the candidates should hang their heads in shame.

One of these candidates will become the new Police Crime Commisioner based on a very small turn out of the public, this does not inspire confidence in the role or the candidate.

  2. To be fair there is information and policy statements by all candidates on the Essex Polce elections website, however not everyone has access to a computer

.I agree with Lambo there should have been literature out there to enable the public to make an informed decision on who to vote for but I am not sure whether candidates have to fund printing of said literature, maybe someone better informed than me can advise accordingly. .

  3. I, for one, will not be voting. I have seen nothing from any of the candidates so I have nothing on which to base a vote. I can see the turnout for the elections being tiny, is there point at which the turnout is so low the result is deemed null and void?
