Music seized, man fined as council get tough on noise abatement

BRETT Stone, of Grass Croft, Dell Road, Grays has been ordered to pay fines and costs of £615 after admitting three charges relating to noise nuisance.

On Monday (November 26th) Basildon Magistrates Court heard that a Noise Abatement Notice had been served on the 25-year- old in April 2012 after he continued to disturb neighbours with loud music.

Despite the notice Stone continued playing his music and making noise at an unacceptable level. Thurrock Council Environmental Protection Officers witnessed three further breaches, twice in July and again in September 2012.

Officers were granted a warrant to enter Stones property in September 2012, where they seized stereo systems, speakers, amplifiers and other electrical equipment.

Imposing a £100 fine, Magistrates ordered Stone to pay £500 towards costs, a £15 victim surcharge and to forfeit all his seized equipment.

Residents are reminded that officers can be contacted on the out of hours noise service Friday and Saturday nights between 21.00hrs and 03.00 on 07788 200200, and outside of those hours complaints can be made to the Environmental Protection team by calling 01375 652955.
