POLICE ADVICE: 1715 hrs

Motorists are advised to find alternative routes home tonight (Monday) following a road crash on the M25 near Thurrock which is likely to close one carriageway for several hours.

Two lorries struck each other on the anti-clockwise carriageway near Junction 31 shortly before 2:30pm on Monday, December 17. Motorists who are trying to enter Essex from Kent are being diverted off at Junction 31 (Lakeside) to rejoin the motorway further ahead. The clockwise carriageway remains unaffected. The anti-clockwise carriageway at the crash scene is not expected to reopen until the early hours of Tuesday morning (December 18) as the road requires repair due to a spillage involved in this collision.

Only one of the two lorry drivers was injured. He is a man in his 20s. He was airlifted to hospital after sustaining multiple injuries. As a result of this landing, a section of the clockwise carriageway was closed for approximately 15 minutes.

At this stage, we have not got any details about where the injured man is from or which hospital he is going to.

Update

The M25 had re-opened fully by 0500 hrs on Tuesday Dec 18th.
