PARENTS whose young children will be starting school after the summer have just a week left to apply for places.
Primary school applications close on 15 January and parents are reminded of the importance of getting their applications in on time and properly filled in.
Admissions opened on 1 November and everyone who has an email account can apply online by going to Thurrock Council’s website (www.thurrock.gov.uk) and clicking on the “School admission” link – it is also possible to apply with a paper application.
Cllr Oliver Gerrish, Thurrock Council’s portfolio holder for education, said: “Although there are sufficient primary places across the borough, some schools will be oversubscribed so places in some areas will be very tight, increasing the importance of applying within the deadline.”
He added: “It is equally important that people use all their choices, not just one, as their first choice may be oversubscribed.”
Applying online gives access to an electronic copy of Thurrock Council’s primary schools prospectus which gives detailed guidance on how to apply as well as basic information about every primary school in the borough.
If people apply online, they can choose to have an email acknowledgement of the application sent, and they will receive an offer of a place earlier than if another method is used.
Anyone with queries should contact the council’s Admissions team by emailing school.admissions@thurrock.gov.uk, by calling 01375 652883, or by writing to Admissions, Thurrock Council, Civic Offices, New Road, Grays, RM17 6SL.
